But then again Eva never eats like this...

A good dog

Thursday, June 19, 2008

Those of you that ever spent time at Nate's parents house were probably fortunate enough to meet Rocky. Rocky sadly passed away this week due to complications from old age. He was a very sweet and fun dog for the past 12 years. He was always very good with kids even when they would pull his hair or play rough with him. He loved his blankets (those few of you who have seen it know what I mean). He was mostly potty trained (unless Mom & Dad got new furniture or carpet). Just an overall good dog. We'll miss Rocky. We know there is a special place in dog heaven for Rocky just like there is in our hearts and memories.

Haircuts!

Friday, June 13, 2008

So Gretta and Eva went to get their haircuts today. See if you can tell who like their haircut better ...
Anyway what was supposed to be a fun mommy daughter date turned into:
"Sob sob ... I don't like short haaaiiiir ... sob sob ... I just want princess haaaaiiiir ... sob sob"
After an afternoon of complementing Eva on her hair, she is finally starting to get used to it and isn't sad anymore.

P.S. - please write Disney and tell them we need more short haired princesses.

I think I went a little overboard!

Thursday, June 12, 2008

I started making hair bows for a cute cheap gift and so my girls would look cute at church on Sunday; I think i went too far. We almost never leave the house without a clip in our girls hair and even if we tried to, I don't think Eva would let us. She loves to have a flower in her hair and one of her favorite things to do is to pick out which one she is going to wear that day.
Why two little girls would need over 65 hair bows and flower clips I'm not sure. But I think my bathroom is starting to look like a bad Trading Spaces episode where Hildie stapled thousands of silk flowers to someones master bathroom wall.

Backyards are fun

Sunday, June 8, 2008

Thank you economic stimulus package! What do you do with a cool grand from Uncle Sam? We decided we'd work on our backyard (it's really more of a sand box with the occasional rusty nail). So we first decided to put in a patio.

We're living the dream now. BBQ three times a week. We also put in a little play area for the girls. We got some rubber bark from Lowe's. If you're not familiar with rubber bark; it is made from recycled tires and works really well. It doesn't fade, insects don't like it, it doesn't get hot in the sun, and it doesn't float away. We highly recommend it.

After all our hard work our backyard looked so awesome that this turtle stopped by to check it out. Eva found this little guy in the backyard. She said "A TURTLE!! A TURTLE!!" and Gretta and Nate were like "Yeah right Eva". But sure enough there he was. Actually the backyard is probably only 1/3 of the way done. $1000 only goes so far. So here's hoping for more recession next year and another check from the government.

How to grow a mustache

Friday, May 23, 2008

So you’ve decided to man up and grow a stache. Excellent choice. I’ve decided to add this post to make the transition an easy one.

First things first, decide on what kind of stache you’d like grow. I like to Wikipedia the word “mustache” and see what pops up. Check out the styles and see what you like. Whether it be a handlebar, a horseshoe, a Fu Manchu, or a simple Burt Reynolds type; find what suits you best.

Second, I suggest growing a beard or a goatee first. I think you should ease your way into the stache. Don’t do your stache the disservice of growing it in patchy, thin, etc.

Third, get the best precision razor money can buy and work your magic. You may clean up first with an electric razor or sideburn trimmer, but you’ll need a good small razor for the detailing. I wouldn’t try this with anything more than two blades thick (sorry Schick Quattro, men only). Remember symmetry is the key to a dazzling stache.

Okay handsome, you are ready to meet the world in a whole new light.

Some people close to you may be jealous of your stache and try to make you feel bad for having one. Don’t be fooled, this type of mustache bigotry has been going on since the 80’s. Here are some things you may hear from the mustache intolerant, along with things you can say in return:

Intolerant: “Hey, I didn’t know you were a cop/firefighter”

Response: “Since 9/11, I would think anyone would love to be associated with fine men of the police/firefighter department. Anyone who says otherwise hates America. You don’t hate America do you?”

Intolerant: “You look like an adult film star.”

Response: “If by adult film star you mean Tom Selleck in Three Men and a Baby. . . thank you, thank you very much.”

Intolerant: “That is ugly.”

Response: “Yes, mustache intolerance is ugly, as are all prejudices. Maybe you should go, you might be late for your supremacist rally.”

Always try to put yourself in the place of your stache. If other staches came up to your stache and said “Hey that face you’re on is ugly”. Would your stache dispose of you? Exactly. So man up and be proud of your newfound friend.

(P.S. - that is a full resolution picture so you can save it as your wallpaper)

Do you believe in aliens?

Sunday, April 20, 2008

So last month we decided to take a trip to Roswell and see what was up with all the alien talk we had heard about. We visited the International UFO museum to finally discover the truth about aliens.

I don't know what we expected to see or learn. At least an X-files type amusement park ride? Needless to say the "museum" is just an old movie theater with a bunch of old newspaper clippings and posters. So basically you pay your six bucks and walk around and read a lot more than you want to. It kind of reminded me of walking around an elementary school gym on science project day. And at the finale of the tour you get to see a reenactment of the famous alien autopsy. Turns out it is an old JC Penney mannequin operating on an old movie prop.

Needless to say, it was disappointing. The town of Roswell was pretty cool though. The street lights are shaped like alien heads and the McDonalds is shaped like a UFO. There are lots of alien gift shops and the people are really nice.

Overall it was a fun trip and we were glad we went. I just would have rather spent my six bucks on an alien t-shirt, or a mug, or pretty much anything that runs six bucks in Roswell NM.
